From the day we bought the Little House, I knew that the backyard would have to go. The large Austin stone structures took up the entire yard, making it feel tiny and giving us little functional entertaining space (let alone any space for the puppies to play).
There have been points during this backyard remodel that I’ve looked around me at the piles of concrete and dirt and rebar and thought that there was no way we’d ever get the project done. It was too big for us. We took on too much. What were we thinking?!
And then we reached a turning point. With a little help from our friends, we removed the giant dead hot tub… and found our yard in the process (click on the panorama below to see it better).
We could see it now. We could see our plans taking shape. Before you knew it, we had a shiny crushed granite patio.
There was only one thing left to finish the hardscape: the grass.
We finally, finally have a real backyard. If we stopped working on it today it could still be called “finished”.
But we’re not done, not by a long shot. Now comes the fun part… accessorizing!
Check back tomorrow for a sod-laying how-to from Kevin!
Looks really nice! And I bet the puppies are very happy with it too. 🙂
Thanks! They love it!
Oh wow! What a transformation – you must be really, really thrilled. I can imagine having all those big structures out there really weighing on you knowing that you had to tackle them at some point.
We’re so glad they’re gone! And honestly, I can’t believe we did it all ourselves!
It’s looking wonderful. What a transformation!!!
Thanks Sara! Why don’t you leave that snow behind and come see it for yourself? You can even bring Dwight!
It’s looking so great! I’m so excited for you two 🙂
Thanks Kristen!
Woohoooooo, looks great!! 🙂
Thanks Gabbi!!
Looks sooo good! I bet it’s so rewarding to have a great space and know that you made it that way! Great job!
I can’t wait to sit back in one of our new chairs on our new deck and look at our new grass and say, Hey. We did this. 🙂
Awesome! You guys have put in so much work; it really looks great. I am sure you will enjoy every bit of it =)
Thanks Kelly!
Wow, seeing the before and after pics all together is awesome, really helps seeing all the changes. I’d love to have a lush green backyard like that!
Thanks!
Next time you’re in Dallas come by and enjoy it!
That is a huge amount of work you guys took on. I bet you are ready for a little rest now. You should feel rewarded though because it looks great!
It looks absolutely fantastic! You both did such a wonderful job. So much work- but it totally looks like it was worth it. My backyard is something I REALLY need to work on. For starters- we need a fence. Not just for privacy, but so my pup can run free in his own yard!
Congrats on all the hard work. Its gorgeous!
Thanks!
It’s looking so great! I’m so excited to see it finished!
Thanks! We are too!
