Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
The hubs and I spent our Memorial Day weekend in Austin, Texas with some friends from college (Hi, Amber and Jack!). Armed with five inner tubes (one for each of us plus one for the cooler), some choice adult beverages, some SPF 9000, and our waterproof camera, we spent about four hours floating a two mile section of the Guadalupe River on Saturday.
On Sunday, we headed for the hill country surrounding Austin. The area is famous not only for its beautiful scenery, but also for its wine and olive oil production. The sandy soil and dry, arid climate is perfect for growing certain varieties of heat loving grapes and olives. We followed some of the Texas Wine Trail, stopping at several wineries and sampling some incredible fresh pressed olive oil.
While driving back to Austin we stumbled on Salt Lick Barbecue, arguably the best place to get BBQ in all of Texas. We gorged ourselves on sausage, brisket, ribs, and turkey, the headed back to our hotel.
When we got back to Dallas on Monday, we met up with a few more friends for a cookout and a walk to Flag Pole Hill, where the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was playing a concert of patriotic tunes. Let’s just say the concert ended with a bang.
We had an awesome weekend filled with friends, floating, and good food. Thank you again to all military personnel and their families for their sacrifices that allow us the freedom to go and have weekends like this. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
What did you do this weekend?
