Little House. Big Resolutions: A Check-Up III

The past two days we’ve discussed where we are on our New Year’s Resolutions. Up to this point, we’ve done pretty good. We’ve managed to get off on the right foot towards living healthier and are making progress disconnecting from our technology and reconnecting with our friends and family. Today’s where things start to get uncomfortable.

Resolution #3: Be Better Neighbors

Not the Mr. Rogers kind – more along the Mark 12:31 lines (love your neighbor as yourself). Kevin and I are incredibly blessed… the kind of blessed where in moments of reflection I wonder how someone like me could possibly deserve all this. And because God has seen fit to bless our Little House, we want to share it as much as we can.

Did you catch what I said there? “We want to share.” We haven’t. Yet. That’s going to change. We’re going to run Dallas’ St. Patrick’s Day 5K benefiting the North Texas Food Bank. We’re going to get involved with our church’s service group, Engage, and serve in our community.

I’ve recently come across some volunteer opportunities at our local library. They’re in need of volunteers to help kids after school with homework and to assist people with creating and editing resumes. I’m hoping to get involved in one or both of these areas.

This is probably the resolution that Kevin and I need to improve on most; it’s also possibly the most rewarding.

What do you do to give back?

  1. Those are such great things to get involved in! Joe & I try to donate all of the items we no longer need (as long as they’re in good condition) but with my commute, it’s hard to get involved with any other opportunities in the community.

You are definitely an inspiration! Good luck with everything!

  2. I need to find time to give back too. I am horrible for not doing this. I do try to get involved around Christmas time with donations and gifts and such and often donate to cancer causes but I really should donate some time to something. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck!
