Garden Plans

It was a pretty lazy weekend around the Little House. Since it was in the 70s all weekend, we spent most of our time outside sitting and soaking up the sunshine. The rest of the time we spent planning our raised garden.

Way back when I posted this idea for our raised garden beds. After talking about it, however, we’ve decided to do only one raised bed and to moved it to the side of the yard, running parallel to the sidewalk. This will keep as much green space as possible for puppy to terrorize run in.

We’re planning on modeling our garden after this pin. We’re going to use decking 1×6’s to make the frame and are planning on making it 4’x16’x11″.  We’re planning on needing 48 cubic feet of soil (just under two yards). We’re still not sure how we’re going to get the lumber and soil to our house, but we’ll cross that bridge in February when we start the building process.

In addition to building a raised garden bed for our bigger veggies, we’ll be adding the gutter garden as seen on Pinterest. We’ll plant our greens and shallow growing veggies in here, adding vertical growing space and helping to keep the Little House’s yard feeling big.

We absolutely cannot wait to get started on this project. So much so that we already marked off where the garden will be and went to Home Depot to price all of our lumber. Planting starts mid-February, so we’ll be tackling this project soon.

Are you planting a garden this spring? Have you started dreaming about them yet? Isn’t that gutter garden just about the coolest thing since sliced bread and toasters?

  1. We’ve wanted to plant a garden since we moved in here, but haven’t gotten around to it! I’m not sure we’ll be able to do it this year with all the wedding planning going on…
And that gutter garden totally is the coolest thing ever!

  2. 1) That gutter garden is an amazing idea and I am insanely jealous that you’ll have one! You’ll have to post a tutorial 🙂

    2) Joe and I would like to plant a garden but we’re going to have to see what the landlord has in store. He typically has his own stuff going on but it’s pretty messy. Not sure if Joe and I will get around to cleaning it all up or just make a planter for ourselves.

We'd love to hear what you have to say!
